Familia Soundset Showdown 3

Every year, hip-hop heads of the Twin Cities, come together to celebrate our scene's rich history of hip-hop music at a music festival known as Soundset. The event has grown from its' roots at the Metrodome, to a recently relocated space at Canterbury in Shakopee, MN. Numerous rap/hip-hop acts perform throughout the day as thousands of spectators have the opportunity to check out vendor booths, DJ tents & even a skateboard ramp event.

For the third year, Familia Skateshop has setup shop at Soundset, with a mini-ramp and new for this year - a four block and handrail contest. Skateboarders have the opportunity to skate the ramp for the day, but the real action kicks off when the actual Showdown contest begins. We documented the days' madness in this montage below, so take a view (Additional filming by Kyle Henkler).

Nike SB Koston 2 Wear Test at Familia HQ

Just over four years ago, long time legend skateboarder Eric Koston, made the jump to Nike SB. From the get go, Koston was heavily involved with SB as he spawned two iconic colorways for the Dunk Low & High. At that point, we all knew it wasn't long before Nike SB was to release his first signature shoe. Less than two years later, the Koston One was born and carried much success while widely appealing to skateboarders & non-skateboarders, respectively.

We fast-forward to 2013 as Nike SB releases Eric Koston's second signature shoe. The Koston 2 launched with a bang as Nike showcased the shoe in a commercial, which even featured Tiger Woods.

In attempt to capitalize on the momentum, Familia Skateshop teamed up with Nike SB and held a private wear test at the Familia HQ. Familia invited the local SB flow riders, shop employees and a select few of their finest customers to tryout Koston's latest shoe.

With that said, take a look at this memorable event through this wear test montage (Additional filming by Kyle Henkler).

The Nike Air Yeezy II Skate Test

This past month, Nike Sportswear released one of the most hyped sneakers of all time, the Nike Air Yeezy II. The shoe, designed by Kanye West, is a follow up to the original Nike Air Yeezy, which saw after-market prices skyrocket to upwards of $10,000.

In collaboration with Quincy Design Co. & Phenom, local Minneapolis skateboarder Anthony Hart put the shoes to a skateboarding wear test, to not only demonstrate how they held up, but to shatter the hearts of so many sneakerheads and to showcase the true purpose of what the kicks are meant for - wear and tear.

Take note, there's a lot of attention to detail within the video, so you're best to watch it a few times (in 720p, of course).

The Nerdery's Overnight Website Challenge

West African Medical Missions is a non-profit organization, based out of Minnesota that empowers and strengthens the citizens of West Africa through health education, leadership development and community outreach. On the other hand, 'Two Unicorns, One Moon' of TST Media, is a highly skilled team specializing in the execution of world-class sports content strategy, design, marketing and technology.

These two organizations recently collaborated on a successful effort in the 'Nerdery Overnight Website Challenge' to create a website for WAMM within 24 hours on the behalf of 'Two Unicorns, One Moon'. The end result was a first place finish in the contest; here's a video to further illustrate the commemorative efforts of both parties.

SLAM Magazine 157: Rubio x Love - 'Behind the Cover'

Ricky Rubio and Kevin Love are featured on the cover of SLAM Magazine's issue 157, which pays tribute to a cover from the 1997-98 season that graced Kevin Garnett and Stephon Marbury - whom were the Wolves' dynamic duo. In this video, we go 'Behind the Cover' and give viewers a look at the Atiba Jefferson, directed photo shoot.
